Kill your darling…

I cared little for the start of the story and I needed some distance from Rykers Challenge. It gave me a chance to think about the story. When I wrote it, I thought it was bloody marvelous. As I thought about it, I became more and more convinced of the book’s major flaws… So I made a drastic decision. I decided to commit murder and killed the whole thing.

It’s not the first time I got from my writing funk, writing all day, every day, to find out the story is so flawed I didn’t want to continue. There is a solution for this problem, of course, and it’s called outlining. I don’t like to outline a book; it takes quite a bit of joy out of writing. But I will outline Rykers Challenge 2.0. I will use the well-known and proven “Save the Cat” outlining method. A lot of events will stay the same as in the 1.0 version, but I hope to make the story better and stronger.

On 23 September I changed the website. The “Old book”, version 1.0 has moved a bit to the right, and I’ve made a new “Version 2.0” page. The “Dumping ground” page I renamed to “Trashed”. Shorter and more clearly.

So join me as I outline the story. I intend to write some articles as an enrichment of the story itself. I hope to have finished the outline in October so I can write the story itself as in November’s Nanowrimo.
