  • Hook

A hook in a book is the part of the story that grabs your attention and makes you want to keep reading. Think of it like fishing — the hook is what catches the fish. In storytelling, the hook is what catches the reader. It can be a gripping first sentence, an intriguing event, a mysterious question, or a character facing a big problem right from the start.

For example, if a book begins with, “I never thought I’d be running from the police at midnight,” that’s a hook. It makes you curious about why the person is running, what they did, and what will happen next. Hooks can appear at the beginning of a chapter, but they can also pop up anywhere in a book to keep the reader’s interest alive.

A strong hook makes you want to turn the page. It can be a shocking twist, a secret revealed, or an exciting action scene. Without a good hook, a story might feel slow or boring. Writers use hooks to ensure readers don’t put their book down.

In short, a hook is a way to keep the reader engaged and eager to know what happens next.

    Kill Your Darlings

Great writing advice: kill your darlings. Well, maybe meant in a different way, but this was quite radical. The Dutch Master is dead.

    Writing fault #1:

The date I started the first book in Aeon Timeline. That means all the dates are now in 2027 and 2028. If I had to change it all, it would have cost me a full day. Besides, it’s boring.

It’s still A bit awkward when you are writing in 2025. But nothing time won’t heal.

  • Getting lost in the Blogposts

I will be writing a lot of blogposts – I hope – and as these are all posted in chonological order, it may be hard to find different subjects.

So I’ll post them all by topic on this page, to make finding them a little easier.

  • Spoiler Alert

You will be the first to know!

When I take you with me writing this book, the sheer number of potential spoilers is so overwhelming, I’ve avoided mentioning them altogether.

So if you don’t want to know the outcome of the plot, please come back after I have finished the book! You are with me in this creativity process, including all the mistakes I make.

  • The Making Of UGLY GIRL

    A Trilogy

I never intended to write a trilogy. And the title of the series is perhaps not the best one. “The Dutch Master” series refers, of course, to the Famous Dutch Masters like Frans Hals, Johannes Vermeer and Rembrandt van Rijn, but also to Koen de Groen. A Dutch BDSM-Master in the present time.

Good Girl is my first finish attempt ever. And I was quite pleased with the result. Outlining never was my thing, but Good Girl I did a bit of outlining before I started. I started many times and after 40.000 or 50.000 words, concluded that it was crap, and started with a new idea. Twice I wrote about 60.000 words in a Nanowrimo competition, but looking back at those… Well, let’s say it is true what they say about the more you write, the better you will be.

Compared to Good Girl, I wrote Bad Girl in half of the time I needed for my first book. I knew there had to be flashbacks to parts of Sylvia-de Groen van Geelen sorid past, and I wrote those first. That was a lot of fun. I wrestled a while with how to integrate those flashbacks into the here and now. But I was pleased with the end result. Although it recived a luke warm welcome on Storiesonline, I still consider Bad Girl a far better book than it’s predecessor.

Ugly GirlI knew that in the third book, Ugly Girl, I needed to make more preparations. I actually started outlining this book. And it is supposed to become the best book in this series.

    I hope.

I used AEON TIMELINE to map out all the actions in all the three books (224 up to now). And each event (as Aeon has named its actions) had a date when it happened, the participants in the event, The book(s) the event was described, the location where it happened, how old the characters were and the chapter in the book the event took place.

So this helped me to be consistant (well, as much as possible) because events overlap several books.

I would like you to join my journey, making Ugly Girl. Because it’s not about the Goal,…

    BEHIND THE SCENES

    Payback weekend – DD/LG Explained

It’s important to clarify the distinction between DD/lg (Daddy Dom/little girl) dynamics (a consensual adult BDSM/kink relationship) and paedophilia (a psychiatric disorder involving attraction to minors), as they are fundamentally different. Below are key differences, along with reputable sources for further reading.

Key Differences Between DD/lg and Pedophilia

    1. Consent & Age of Participants

    • DD/lg (Daddy Dom/little girl):
    • Involves consenting adults roleplaying caregiver/little dynamics.
    • The “little” (often abbreviated as “lg”) is an adult who voluntarily engages in age regression or playful, childlike behaviour.
    • No actual minors are involved.
    • Paedophilia:
    • Involves sexual attraction to prepubescent children (under age 13).
    • If acted upon, it is a crime (child sexual abuse).
    • Non-consensual and harmful to minors.

    2. Psychological & Emotional Context

    • DD/lg:
    • A kink or lifestyle dynamic within BDSM, often used for emotional comfort, power exchange, or sexual roleplay.
    • The “little” may enjoy age regression (e.g., colouring, stuffed animals) but remains fully aware of their adult identity.
    • Paedophilia:
    • A mental health disorder (classified in the DSM-5 as paedophilic disorder if it causes distress or harm).
    • Involves fixation on actual children, not roleplay.

    3. Legal & Ethical Boundaries

    • DD/lg:
    • Legal as long as all participants are consenting adults.
    • Ethical when practiced safely, sanely, and consensually (BDSM principles).
    • Paedophilia:
    • Illegal if acted upon (child exploitation).
    • Even without action, it is considered a psychiatric issue requiring therapy.

Why People Confuse Them (And Why They Shouldn’t)

    • Misunderstanding Roleplay: DD/lg may appear similar to outsiders due to terms like “Daddy” or “little,” but it is not about real children.
    • Stigma Against Kink: Some assume all unconventional sexual dynamics are harmful, but DD/lg is ethical when consensual.
    • Media Sensationalism: Pop culture often conflates kink with pathology, leading to misinformation.

    Final Note

DD/lg is a legal, consensual adult dynamic, while paedophilia is a serious psychological and criminal issue. The key difference is consent and the age of participants.
